I have always had the passion to explore african american culture as well as other cultures as a young adult. This passion and knowledge helped me to understand who I was as a strong, persistent, and confident "black" woman. After marrying and having two daughters of my own, the need to instill a sense of self, confidence and cultural knowledge in my own daughters became essential.

 

I not only wanted to provide the cultural education that my daughters were not receiving in their schools but

also make sure that they felt confident in who they were and in the capabilities they possess to do whatever they choose to do in life.

 

After realizing that several of my friends, with daughters, had a similar desire for their beautiful brown girls, I decided to create IKIC, (I Know I Can), an empowerment group for young brown girls that helps to instill strength, confidence, persistence and cultural awareness.
